Amanda Detmer, born September 27, 1971 in Chico, California, is the daughter of singing cowboy Melvin Detmer and reading teacher Susan Detmer. Amanda attended California State University in Chico and completed an undergraduate degree. Amanda Detmer made her small screen debut on the made-for-TV movie “Stolen Innocence” in 1995, but decided to complete her master’s degree at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts before pursuing a full time career in Hollywood. When she earned her Master’s Degree in Fine Arts in 1999, Amanda Detmer went back to show business and landed a role in the TV drama mini-series “To Serve and Protect.”
Amanda Detmer gained TV exposure and dramatic experience on the series “Ryan Caulfield: Year One” and the Don Roos sitcom “M.Y.O.B,” where Amanda plays an upbeat and understanding teacher. Although Amanda Detmer re-entered the industry in her late twenties, she was still able to win roles as a teenager on-screen, such as the thriller flick “Final Destination” and the 2000 romantic comedy film “Boys and Girls,” alongside Claire Forlani, Jason Biggs and Freddie Prinze Jr.
In 2001, Amanda Detmer worked again with Jason Biggs and alongside Jack Black in the movie “Saving Silverman,” wherein she portrays a would-be nun who is longed for by Biggs’ character. That same year, she bagged a role in the Jim Carrey movie “The Majestic,” playing the woman Jim’s character leaves behind after he suffers from amnesia. In 2002, Amanda Detmer won small roles in the comedy films “Big Fat Liar” and “Kiss the Bride.”
In television, Amanda Detmer was featured in the 2006 telefilm “Proof of Lies” and guest-starred in the ABC drama series “What about Brian.”
